I’m running for town council for a few reasons. #1 I’ve seen too many great people leave Canmore! People that worked hard and loved it here, people that were born here were forced to leave because their rents were jacked up or my heavens because they have a pet and they don’t want to abandon them, or their trailer they owned needed to go, or their rental property became short term accommodations. These last 10 years it has become nuts. Full disclosure, myself and my rental situation- I’ve lived on 4 street for 22 years, a lovely old miners home, the lease this last May came with “we are going to develop the property”. Totally legal but any day I can get the phone call from the landlady and I have 3 months. Over the years thats $280,000 in rent. In hindsight, the Grotto village was just being built back then and for $99,000 I’d be sitting pretty but alas if you don’t have a down payment, you're a renter.
#2 is the vision of Canmore. What are we honestly thinking? I witnessed when the highway was shut due to that bad accident last month, EMS vehicles could not move. The roads are so narrow you can’t pull over. We are constricting traffic so people will bike and not take their cars. We have to give the tourists a place to park. A parkade on town land is the only answer after the shenanigans we’ve done to the roads. Include the paid parking in this, why is the person working at Beamers not given a pass to park? We have to support our locals! Drive down past the pond, it’s sooo tight because you park there without paying, once again what about EMS vehicles?
We have to stop this 💩!

I just want to help fix this 💩
I love Canmore! So many commute One awesome fella Mike Tylek commuted from Cochrane then from Airdrie to work with us at the Canmore hh, he ruined 2 cars and gave it up.
So many people say Cochrane is awesome. To that I say wonderful for them, enjoy your cheaper gas and groceries and rent or mortgage 😁
But I love it here!
For the last few years I’ve tried to ignore the actions of the town, and when it gets to me I say just look up at those mountains 😊 but maybe there’s another way.
I was born and raised in eastern Canada, a high school graduate of Fredericton High School. After graduation I started working in a restaurant kitchen and soon became the kitchen manager. In 1997 I got in my old Bronco with some friends and hit the road.
We hit Calgary in April at minus 40😁 Stayed a week there and that was enough, hit the road again and got to Banff and the old truck said “I’m done”. So Banff it was, I worked as a helper for a lady who had MS briefly before I joined the team at Aardvark Pizza for 4 years. Now that was fun time with a lot of memories (some fuzzy)! Thanks Dave Smalley and crew, there is still a few from that crew around, Denise Swick and Kelly Strevans😊. That ended and I started working at the Ho in 2001, kitchen manager again and after a few months moved to Canmore.
Briefly I worked at the Victory thrift shop, that was fun! That was 2005, the Valley was so cool then!
I interviewed at the Canmore Home Hardware in 2006 and yes now I’ve been there 19+ years.
Join us in making Canmore a better place for all residents.
